Rondebosch has many open spaces, like Keurboom Park, where the locals take their walks with their families and pets. It is a community lifestyle with children forming life time friendships which bring them back to live in the residential area of Rondebosch when they start their own families.

Rondebosch property began in 1657, when nine men were given farms along the Liesbeek River. These men, known as the Free Burghers, grew wheat. The area had many clumps of round bushes and Jan van Riebeek gave it the name De Ronde Bosjen.  It was later changed to Rondeboschje and finally named as we know it today as Rondebosch.

One of the few landmarks is the fountain, which is considered the centre of Rondebosch real estate. This is a Victorian lamp post surrounded by a drinking fountain. St Paul's Church is built on a rock based terrace and has one of the oldest graveyards in South Africa. Soldiers used to camp at Rondebosch Common dating back to 1807. It was a general rule that the land would remain open for public use. Over the years, however, pieces of the original land were cut up and used for other purposes. The Red Cross Children's Hospital was built on the Common land. In 1961 The Common was proclaimed a National Monument. The Common is home to 200 indigenous plants. Nowadays, it is enjoyed by the residents for recreational purposes.

Rondebosch properties are also nearby the historical Rhodes Memorial, this was built in memory of Cecil John Rhodes, is surrounded by gracious residential property.  Rhodes Memorial was built on the site where Rhodes liked to sit and think about his future. The memorial was designed by Sir Francis Macey and Sir Herbert Baker, and was built with money raised by Capetonians. There are 49 steps and each represents a year of Rhodes' life. On the walls flanking the steps there are eight lions looking out to Cape Town.

The Presidential home, Groote Schuur, was bequeathed by Cecil John Rhodes to the Prime Minister of the ‘Federated States of South Africa'. This was where Nelson Mandela and FW De Klerk signed the Groote Schuur Minute as a commitment to a peaceful negotiation process in 1990. This marked the beginning of the end of apartheid. This is significant as Rondebosch is also known for another beginning -the first privately owned titles of land in South Africa issued by Jan Van Riebeek.
